I have my first completed sewing project to share with you. For my new friends, you can catch up with my journey to learn to sew here and here. I doubt there is anything easier than a runner for the table, unless you make a quilted one or add embellishments.
I simply bought some Halloween material and sewed a simple flat runner. Then I set the table with an off-white tablecloth, a black piece of fabric running across the width of the table, and the Halloween runner across the length of the table. I'm fairly pleased with this project and may make a few for my end tables.
Do you remember this candelabra?
I transformed it by painting it ivory and applying two coats of antique glaze to make it look older...and spookier. Then I coupled it with a black rose, a flying witch, a Jack-o-Lantern and book of spooky tales.
Each place at the table consists of a black charger, a crystal dinner plate, a matching salad plate, and a soup cauldron. I bought the poison goblets at the Dollar Tree.
I will be linking to the following parties:

Hi La,
ReplyDeleteVery cute. Great job on the table runner-you go girl!!
Thanks for sharing.
Jeanette
Your table setting is so fun. I like how your clear glass plates add to the eeriness of your table setting. Kind of ghost-like I guess :).
ReplyDeleteI love your spooky table and what you did with the candelabra. I have never seen black candles before!! You did a great job...I am trying to learn to sew, so I am going to go back and read your other posts.
ReplyDeleteBTW...I was reading your profile. I worked in worker's compensation for many, many years! Interesting, isn't it?
XO,
Janie
Hurray! You are now officially a sewer. That looks very cute. I love the caldrons!
ReplyDeleteOkay, La...I have just read the 2 sewing posts (sorry about the fabric/dress mishap, at least you know not to do that again!! ;-D
ReplyDeleteI have the Dummies book, and another that is even more complicated. My problem is threading the machine. I looked at a few You Tube demos and it was still difficult. So...my SIL is going to help me. Believe it or not, my machine is now a year old and still hasn't been touched!! lol!! I hope you keep up with the Adventures In Sewing series, they are funny and useful!
XO,
Janie
It all looks goulishly good! I love simple projects that make huge impacts. Well done. Tammy

ReplyDeleteI used to sew when I was a girl, but when my college aged daughter decided she wanted to learn this summer we had to take a course a our local Joanne's fabric store. It was very good! Your table is very appealing, and the little jack-o-lantern is so cute! Linda
ReplyDeleteCute and fun table. Love your new table runner and the candelabra transformation. Joni
ReplyDeleteGreat Halloween table! Congrats on your sewing project; I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe silver soup cauldrons are too cute!
Very spooky! Great idea to make your table runner. The pattern is perfect.Great job on the candeladra...did I spell that right? Linda
ReplyDeleteI love how you layered the linens and fantastic job on making the runner. I love the soup cauldrons...where on earth did you find those?
ReplyDeleteVery cool!!! I am still so in awe of those who can sew. I don't understand...how do you make the lines straight? I took a sewing class in high school 1,000 years ago and got a D. I am baffled by the inner workings of needle of thread! Could you please email me about how you get the lines straight to sew it? Do you use a machine or do it by hand? When the people cut the fabric at the store, sometimes it is straight enough to not worry about it, but most of the time you have to do something to it. I can't even use the Stitch Witch stuff! :-( I'm hopeless, I think!
ReplyDeletei'm loving that whole spooky tablescape! and great job on the runner!

Your tablexcape is darling. You're going to have so much fun making special table linens for yourself. I have a closet full. Every time I'm in a fabric store, my brain is saying, "Wow, that would make a great tablecloth!" Thank you for sharing your project and your charming design. Cherry Kay
