Hello Friends.
I have to tell you, the comments left on the Blast from the Past posts are my very favorite to read. You all share such wonderful memories and humorous quips. I look forward to it every week.
Last week, we talked about gas prices UNDER A DOLLAR A GALLON. Now THOSE were the good ol’ days. Many of you mentioned there aren’t any drive-ins left in your area. Let me tell you….come to Central Ohio where they still exist.
Drive-ins are still the best cinema bargain around. They still offer double features for one low price. There are, however, some changes.
Remember when you would pull up to a post with a detachable speaker. As a young driver, I always seemed to have problems lining up my dad’s car correctly. Ergo, there was always the back-up, pull forward, back-up, pull forward, back-up, pull forward dance to park just right. Then I would need to stretch out the window to grab the speaker and attach it to my window. Half the time the sound was so bad all you could here was static.
When Jordan was younger, we would drive to the drive-in in Kenton, which is about 20 miles away. We would stop and get a pizza and drinks on the way. It was an economical evening of fun. Now, that same drive-in charges you extra for bringing in your own food.
Jordan and Ashlee go to the drive-in from time-to-time. There are four drive-in theaters within an hour’s drive so they have a good choice of movies. As for me, it has been probably 5-6 years since I went to the drive-in. I can’t seem to stay awake that late anymore…
Do you have good memories of drive-in theaters? Do you still have drive-ins near you?

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY
YES, I have some great memories of the drive in theater.good times good times. Have not been to one in years.
ReplyDeleteI think there are at least 2 drive-ins within 50 miles of my home. In the 60's that was our weekend entertainment. Holidays ~ Memorial Day, July 4th & Labor Day ~ were always all-nighters...I remember staying for a few...but I don't think I watched them all...zzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories...

There are no more drive ins in our immediate area. We had two within easy driving distance from the home I grew up in. One was right across the street from my high school. I have lots of memories of them as a young teen. I even worked at one for several weeks until I found out the owner was pretty shady. I hated the smell of popcorn at the time because of that job. LOL! They were starting to fall out of favor around here right about the time I was graduating from high school. That was the early 80's and I think it had a lot to do with all the goings on there during the 70's. Neither of our drive ins were family oriented. They mostly played lots of (R)rated horror movies and Cheech & Chong movies. LOL!
ReplyDeleteNo drive ins any more here. The chamber of commerce has outdoor movies during the summer, 40 dollars per car, and not new releases! :(
ReplyDeleteI remember going to the drive in and bugging my mom to go to the snack bar, but she never gave in! Good for her!
We frequented the drive-in during high school years quite a bit! LOL And when we were kids, our parents took us the drive-in as a special treat- we loved playing on the merry-go-round and the swings before the movie started and during intermission between the two shows. Simple pleasures, huh? :-)
ReplyDeleteOh the drive-in was LOTS of fun!! We don't have one here, but when I was in California we did. I remember at the one when I was a kid, they had swing sets and a sandbox in front of the screen!

Our drive in was just across the highway from where I lived. We used to try to sneak in!! Well, not me, I was a scaredy cat!! The consession stand was my favorite place. That's where we heard all the gossip in high school! Wow...great memories!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
there was nothing like laying on the hood of the car to watch a movie under the stars on a warm summer evening. When our children were babies, that was the only way we could go to a movie..... a drive-in. I really miss them.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been to one since I was a kid! I wish there were some around here. So much cleaner! xo,
ReplyDeleteNone around here any more. They were fun though:@)
ReplyDeleteI remember how much fun this was,we still have a Drive In in Jesup Georgia,it's about hour 45min drive, wish we would strike out and go out to the movie's and I do mean OUT!
ReplyDelete~JO
Are there any still around? They were great fun!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't allowed to go to the drive-in on dates. I think maybe I went twice all through high school. My mom thought "nice girls" didn't go there! We did take the kids a few times when they were small. There are still a few around Illinois too...oh, the good old days!
ReplyDeleteThere aren't many, if any, around here. I think I went to my first movie at a drive-in "The Bridge over River Quoi" -- not a very fun movie for a kid, but my dad had served in WWII and he wanted to go. The only drive-in theater I know of around here closed. Before it closed we took our kids to the movie Tarzan. I doubt they remember gong but we wanted them to have that experience. Joni
ReplyDeleteMy son saw his first movie at a drive in when he was a few months old. The Planet Of The Apes movie. OK, it was really so Mom and Dad could watch the movie, but he was along for the ride. I do like your Blast From The Past series you are doing.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Brooklyn, NY --no drive in theaters here--but when my oldest brother got married he moved to Suffolk County, Long Island and discovered drive ins there and loved them!
ReplyDeleteYes! I went to the drive-in every Friday night with my boyfriend when I was growing up. Great memories ...Haven't been to one in years. Great idea, I'll have to see if there is one near here.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
Just pop back over to say HEY!

You scared me when I came over here to search for an old post of yours and your new header photo popped up. Seriously, I jumped back in my chair! Very nice Halloween theme!
ReplyDeleteHahahaaa....as a teen in the 50's when drive inn movies were all so popular, do I ever have some stories to tell. THAT is a post on it's own. Hahaahhh...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories. and I guess it's my olden eyes but I am having trouble reading your black print on the dark purple. I am probably the only one, tho. Remember, my eyes are OLDEN.:))'
hugs, bj
First of all, I love your Halloween template and banner.
ReplyDeleteBob and I used to got the drive-in movie at least once a week in the mid to late 50's. When we were dating, he once turned out the car headlights, drove up the exit road to get in free. He said "now let's make out, they'll be look for boys". Can you believe I still married him, 53+ years ago?
The guys would put several people in the trunk and drive in. All this was to save the 50 cent admission fee!
Seems like I am only telling bad stuff but that is about the worst thing anyone did back then. By today's standards that was pretty tame.
Hugs, Love this feature.
OOPS! Meant "go to" the drive-in.
ReplyDeleteHello La,
ReplyDeleteyes, even we in Germany have Drive-In-Theaters. I lived as child near one and so we could see the moovie (witout hearing the voices) on the big screen from outside. People loved those theaters because their privacy in their own car. But I don't lnow if they still exist here. Cinema's hve a hard life today here.
Thanks for your cute comment for my cat Wiski-Post.
Best greetings, Johanna
