Spring Poem

A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period —
When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.

It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay —

A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.

~ Emily Dickinson

  1. Hi La,

What I do love about blogging and reading blogs are the ageless poetry, quotations, and wisdom of those classic writers.

    This is beautiful.

    *hugs*

  2. How can one not love springtime and all that goes with it. Even if it means spring cleaning too!

  3. We had a hint of spring...but winter has returned for a little while. The words are beautiful...I can't wait to see the blooming flowers and feel the warm sunshine again.

  4. Hi La,
What a beautiful tribute to spring! I love the flower and the poem is so gorgeous too.

I remember last year we were at the beach and all of a sudden,
there was a flower growing out of the sand...I couldn't believe it!
I thought of that when I saw your post.

And thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog...
I just always hope every day that someone is touched by something I share...I think that we're all connected...and it's also amazing that we get to meet people that we might not otherwise ever get to because we're all so far apart. And yet, it seems like each one of us is "next door." Amazing, isn't it?

    Have a beautiful day!
    XO

  7. Oh, spring seems so elusive this year, of course here in Orlando we are already into summer, but so many people are still having snow...Crazy!
