You Can't Get There From Here

Hello Friends.

Many areas of my county are under water making it necessary for me to take an alternate route to and from work.  The flooding is the result of 10 inches of melting snow plus several inches of torrential rainfall.

Joel's school district has been closed for more than a week.  For only the second time in more than 40 years, our basement flooded with several inches of rain water.  Thankfully, there was no sewage water involved.

Today, I thought I'd try my normal route home, which winds along the Scioto River, and see how far I could get.  Want to come along?
Uh-oh, this isn't a good sign

Here's the first sign that things aren't looking good.  As I look down the road, it looks pretty normal.  Let's press on.
As you can see in the pictures, the river runs behind the tree line.  That is not a lake in the foreground; it is a field.  I estimate the water in the field to be close to three feet deep, perhaps more in some spots.
Further north the water is nearly to the road.  Finally, I come to this sign.  Since it is actually out in the road, I opt to take the detour.

After bypassing this portion of the flooded route on one-lane township roads, I came back up to the highway.
As you can see, the water has breached this section of the roadway.  When I finally reached Prospect, I turned left to once again come to a stop due to high water.
My heart and prayers go out to the people of Prospect and Larue, further up-river, as they have really been dealing with a lot of flooding in their homes and streets.  Unfortunately, there is rain in the forecast.  Hopefully, we won't get too much rain and the waters will be able to recede.

Are you experiencing spring-time flooding in your area?  If so, I wish you luck and safety.

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

  2. I'm feeling so bad for you and the others. Florida is finally getting a bit of much needed rain. It has been so dry here we have had some bad wildfires. Please take care.

  4. We are getting a lot of rain here as well. We live in a very hilly area, so if it floods here, the world will be ending. That is just a shame, and I pray for those families affected by it. Be safe La!

  5. Hello La,
I am sorry to hear that your basement is flooded. Our house is on a place without that danger but a flood we had on the fields, too. I hope the flood in your area will end soon. Wish you all the best.
    Greetings, Johanna

  6. Sorry about the basement. That's got to be a pain in the butt! I hear it may snow tomorrow so then all the water can become ice.

  9. Oh, La...this is amazing. So sorry to hear about your basement flooding. I know that is some serious clean-up.
Out here on the plains of West Texas, our church, fellowship group...everyone in town is praying for rain. We had no snowfall, no rain all winter...we are prone to high winds in the spring and with it being so dry, we are NOT looking forward to spring at all.
So, when you pray for no more rain, would you tuck in a little prayer that HE sends it to us?
    xoxo bj

  10. This is just terrible, La. I feel for those people that keep getting affected by the floods over and over. Your pictures are amazing. We don't have floods but sometimes there are flash flood warnings and it really means that the street sewers can't keep up with the rain, so you might hit some area where the water rises up your wheels. Nothing drastic.

    Stay safe, La!

    XO,
    Jane
