After back surgery, congestive heart failure, a major heart attack, three weeks in two hospitals, and six weeks in a physical rehabilitation center, look who is home! Dad came home on Friday, February 17. Although it has taken a couple weeks to acclimate to our new normal, things seem to be settling down.
I am now playing doctor with my Dad three times a day. There is something totally wrong with that sentence. What I mean is I take vitals, administer breathing treatments, and dispense medications. Dad is still making great progress and is now able to walk up and down the stairs alone. God has truly blessed us with answered prayers.
STOP THE PRESSES!
I wrote this post three weeks ago. Before I could publish it, Dad fell and dislocated his elbow. It was a setback for which we weren’t prepared and it knocked the air out of his sails. He, again, had to make adjustments and today he is improving and looking forward to getting his splint off Tuesday and being fitted for a hinged brace.
So, that is what I have been up to…so how ‘bout you? What is keeping you busy?
Greet each day with Gratitude!
Oh my goodness, but your family has been through a lot! I'm glad to know that your dad is improving, but what a painful setback he had!ReplyDelete
I hope that you are taking care of yourself too. We don't want to read that you have succumbed to exhaustion!
how wonderful you are there with him. My dad has cancer and it makes him so weak, he lives 1300 miles away though. Whenever he comes to visit I worry about him driving and falling here, he is not steady on his feet.ReplyDelete
Your dad has really had a miraculous journey that is a lot to be going through!
Nice to see you posting! Wishing your dad continued progress, be sure to take care of yourself too:@)ReplyDelete

Hi La...I had a feeling that your dad was the main reason we were not seeing you around of late. Sorry to hear what he has been through but looks like he came through it ok in the long run. Hope you are taking care of yourself too. I have been where you are. Take care and welcome back!~Hugs, PattiReplyDelete

Oh no. At first I thought you had been through all of that. Glad it wasn't but still not good for your poor dad. So much. I am so sorry. You sure have been busy. I hope things settle down a little. I have been thinking of oyu and wondered where you had been. ((((((HUGS))))) and prayers.ReplyDelete

HEAVENS!!!! No wonder you haven't been around. Talk about pouring when it rains, you were literally flooded! This hospital stuff is no fun and I have been walking the same path with my husband it seems forever, but the whole month of Feb. was the month in Cleveland at the Clinic. I am so glad to see you write that your dad is on the road to recovery. Make sure you take care of you too!ReplyDelete
Oh your poor dad! How grateful he must be to have you to play doctor, but what an upheaval for your family.ReplyDelete
God bless you and take care of all of you. If my dad were living I know I would be glad to do whatever it took to take care of him, he was such a wonderful dad. And if that's how you feel, then good for you.
good to hear again from you. It is a nice message that your Dad's health is improving. I wish your Dad and you all the best.
Hugs and greetings, Johanna

La, it's good to see you are back again. I have not been blogging as I am caring for my mom with dementia but I do check some of my favorite blogs when I have a minute and I was concerned about you.ReplyDelete
I'm glad your dad is on the road to recovery. It sounds like he is strong willed and a fighter! Be sure to set aside some time for yourself because care giving can really drain you. Annette
