Halloween Table

Halloween Greetings!

The table is set and ready for a Halloween Feast.  

The cauldrons are ready to serve piping hot Dead Sea Soup followed by Brain Cell Salad, and Cat Litter Casserole.

Patriotic Tablescape and Another Preview

Can you believe June is nearly over?  Independence Day is just around the corner and Summer is going too, too fast.  Last week I was in Hobby Lobby and they already have their fall and Christmas decor on the shelves!  I chose to ignore those aisles.

In honor of the approaching patriotic SUMMER holiday, I am setting the dining room table in red, white, and blue….how original is that?

I started with white square plates layered with blue bowls and each setting has a striped glass.  I purchased everything for the settings at Dollar Tree.    

For the centerpiece, I started with a wicker picnic basket.  Atop the picnic basket, I used this cute little red bucket I bought at Hobby Lobby to use on Jordan’s graduation buffet a couple years ago.  I added white and blue flowers and accented with the Stars and Stripes.  The star holds a tealight and came from Hobby Lobby...from one of the aisles not containing fall holiday decor. The little red pitcher was on clearance for 50% off.

Spring Garden Table

Hello Friends.

How is your week going?  The weekend is nearly here.  

Today I am sharing a tablescape with Tablescape Thursdays hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.  Spring is in the air with this garden tea party setting.  

You will remember the green plates from my St. Patrick's Day table.  Today, I am using them as a charger.  I added layers with the hand-painted floral plates I bought at Goodwill last week and little personal casseroles I bought at Garden Ridge.  The pink napkins were from one of last year's estate auctions.  

Each place setting has a different spring floral teacup and wooden egg.

I started with one centerpiece, but couldn't pull it together to my liking.  I ended up with this sweet vignette.  The pitcher and dessert plates are from Home Goods.  The pitcher is perched atop the basketweave plates I bought at Goodwill.  I complimented the pieces with a few floral sprigs and a candle.

January Blues

Hello Friends!

It's time to get back to normal after the past few months of continual preparations, celebrations, and libations.

All the Christmas decorations are packed away for the year and It's time to settle into whatever winter has to offer us. So far, January has started mildly in Central Ohio. We've enjoyed three straight days of sunshine, which is unusual during the winter, and our temperatures neared 60* over the New Year's holiday.

Today, I want to share my January tablescape. Because winter is just beginning, I am dedicating January to the snowflake and snowman. I started with a crisp blue tablecloth with snowflakes, which I purchased at Kohl's after-holiday sale for a little over $10.

I coupled the tablecloth with blue napkins from my Wopat Auction stash, and snowman napkin rings I found at Kohl's for $1.49 each.

I used my mother's crystal plates and some glass buffet salad plates I also bought at the Wopat Auction. Between the plates, I placed a circle I cut out of royal blue tissue paper to add some depth of color. The glassware is from the Dollar Tree.

Each placesetting was completed with a glitter snowflake ornament I purchased at The Dollar Tree for 25 cents each.

For the centerpiece, I started with a silver platter I bought at ...you guessed it...the Wopat Auction. The cloche features three little glitter tree ornaments I bought at Walmart for 25 cents each. For color, I tied a blue napkin around the base and paired it with one of my non-catastrophic sewing attempts, a pillow and a taper candle.

Adventures in Sewing: Holiday Tablerunner

Hello!

I have my first completed sewing project to share with you. For my new friends, you can catch up with my journey to learn to sew here and here. I doubt there is anything easier than a runner for the table, unless you make a quilted one or add embellishments.


I simply bought some Halloween material and sewed a simple flat runner. Then I set the table with an off-white tablecloth, a black piece of fabric running across the width of the table, and the Halloween runner across the length of the table. I'm fairly pleased with this project and may make a few for my end tables.

Do you remember this candelabra?

I transformed it by painting it ivory and applying two coats of antique glaze to make it look older...and spookier. Then I coupled it with a black rose, a flying witch, a Jack-o-Lantern and book of spooky tales.


Each place at the table consists of a black charger, a crystal dinner plate, a matching salad plate, and a soup cauldron. I bought the poison goblets at the Dollar Tree.

Happy Fall Y'all!

Hello Friends!

Have you noticed? The past few days, during my commute home in the afternoon, I've noticed the leaves on the trees are starting to change color. I love this time of year. The landscape changes from day-to-day. Around the house, the color scheme has changed hour-to-hour.

It's so much fun decorating for fall. In the coming weeks, changing a few items will transform the fall decor into Halloween and then Thanksgiving. There's so much to do and too little time in the day.


Here are some of the changes I've made this week.

I went from a very muted calm mantle...

...to a splash of fall splendor.

She doesn't do windows...
It's hard to find good help these days.

I made my first attempt at a cloche for Marty's
Cloche Party this weekend.

A wreath (garland for Kath) adorns the front door.

My friend Lanila , from Fort Wayne,
made me this. Isn't it pretty?

A new centerpiece for the dining room table,

a planter for the kitchen table, and

sunflowers for the potbelly Stove.

Mumkins have been ordered and will arrive the first of the month. I'll let you know when the outside is ready for unveiling.

Tablescaped Simply

Hello friends!

I pulled out some of the linens I bought at the Wopat Auction last weekend to set the dining room table for a fall feast. I know it is still summer, but my heart is longing for fall. The tablescape is very simple with earthenware place settings and a small centerpiece featuring sunflowers.
