This past weekend, Marion hosted the annual Marion Popcorn Festival. The three-day festival (Thursday-Saturday)is held the weekend after Labor in downtown Marion each year.
Marion celebrates popcorn because Marion County is one of the top growers of popcorn in the United States. Also, Marion-based Wyandot, Inc. is one of the top exporters of popcorn in the world.
As most street fairs, the Popcorn Festival includes fair food, beauty pageants, midway rides, a parade, crafts, and entertainment. The festival also sponsors cornhole tournaments, a 5K run, a bike ride, and a cooking contest.
Over the years, the entertainment has included acts such as Gloria Estefan, Huey Lewis and the News, Lee Greenwoood, and Willie Nelson.
This year's theme was Peace and Love. Here are a few pictures from this year's festival and the parade.

Keanan chose a Festival favorite, a Schmidt's Cream Puff!
I wouldn't advise riding this after eating that cream puff!

ReplyDeleteHow fun! What a great weekend for a festival. One of those cream puffs looks good right about now.
ReplyDeleteI love festival's! I couldn't remember where you were from, and I just had to come over and check. The pictures look like they could have been taken in Anytown, USA...and we had a town called Marion in NC and there was a high school named Harding...I thought maybe you were NC but you're in Ohio. That cream puff looks amazing, I can't wait to show my husband.
