Yesterday I showed you some of the interesting finds from the Swappers Day in Johnstown, Ohio. As promised, today I am going to share a little about the entertainment offered at the meet.
First, I am so proud of myself that I didn't eat anything from the vendors offering delicious looking and smelling food. Alongside the normal street fair fare, were vendors selling soup beans and cornbread, chicken and noodles, and freshly roasted peanuts from Georgia.
Near the food area was a gazebo featuring a Bluegrass Band. Everyone seemed to enjoy the music from this group of young people. The main attraction of the day, however, was the coon dog races at the Sportsman's Club pond.
The dogs start at one side of the pond in a staging area. Just before the race, they are each placed in a separate gate.
Once all the dogs are in place, the gate door at the opposite end opens and they are off!
They are chasing a bag that is being towed along a wire to the other side of the pond and up a pole. These races were definitely a crowd-pleaser.
I will be linking this post to Outdoor Wednesdays.
What fun! I can see my 2 dogs taking part in the coon dog race, they love to swim, especially if there is something furry on string to tempt them :D
ReplyDeleteThat looked like a fun day.. and I'm proud of you for avoiding the food!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your sweet comments on our new family member... was nice of you to visit!

Now that Coon Dog racing is something Dylan would love. If someone waved a sausage, he'd be off! Jane xx
ReplyDeleteHow interesting....I can't say I ever heard of a coon dog race! I think our Lola would be right there in the water with them if she were there!
