I hope you all enjoyed a fun and festive holiday. We made homemade ice cream this weekend. Did you?
Homemade ice cream is as American as hot dogs, apple pie or baseball. Nothing will cool you on a hot summer day as well as a nice bowl of homemade ice cream. Be careful; brain freeze is a hazard of gobbling too quickly.
My recipe was given to us by an old family friend and is very yummy. I changed the recipe a bit. Here's my recipe, which makes 4 quarts.
Homemade Ice Cream
4 eggs
2 cups sugar (I used 1 1/2 C brown sugar and 1/2 C white)
6 cups milk
4 cups half & half (I used 1 can sweetened condense milk, 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream and the rest half & half)
2 tablespoons Vanilla
Beat eggs thoroughly, add sugar and mix together, then add the rest of the ingredients. Pour into the chilled freezer can and freeze per manufacturer's directions.
YUMMY!
Hope to see you on the 17th!
Oh Yum! Looks & sounds delicious, La! I've never made it at home...no machine here plus we have Handels (homemade IC stands) nearby, so I just never bothered.
ReplyDeleteCute idea for a blog party, your Ice Cream Social.

Hi La, You must have a very large ice cream maker! Mine is just 1.5 qts but for two of us it makes more than enough. I have tried out two recipes for your party - one I won't be posting as it didn't meet the Beth Test; any recipe I post has to be good enough that I'll make it again....the other one, though, passed with flying colors. Looking forward to the party.

I wish I had an ice cream maker, La! My freezer is too small to allow me to cool off the ice cream maker's bowl so I can't buy one. I bet your recipe tastes so good!
