I is for ICE
Wish as I might that winter won’t come this year, it will inevitably arrive. With its arrival comes the dreaded snow and ice storms. Most of the time, my hour commute is uneventful and peaceful because I take back roads as opposed to the road rage-ous freeway. There is the occasional deer encounter, which serves as an excellent wake-up call.
All the peace and tranquility of my commute ends when the weatherman calls for snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice, and freezing fog. Ugh! My entire body tenses just thinking about what is ahead.
Although ice storms can leave beautiful scenery, it also creates power outages, and dangerous driving and walking conditions. The absolute worst is the black ice. The pavement looks clear, but in fact there is a thin layer of ice, which reflects whatever color is beneath it. It is next to impossible to maintain control of the car when you hit a patch of black ice, resulting in many accidents.
Inevitably, our area will see at least a few ice storms. The best thing to do is allow more time for travel and SLOW DOWN. Be safe.

Not looking forward to ice either! I remember when my boys were little I said "let's all hold hands so we don't fall down". Yea, that just meant all three of us fell:@)
ReplyDeleteIf someone could hold the winter off, I would really appreciate it..Not fond of ice storm either!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm not afraid of winter now I have my electric foot warmer LOL
ReplyDelete122 Days to be exact. We'll make it, don't worry.
ReplyDelete122 days..thats good to know.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have some snow, but skip the ice.
I love winter but it's because there used to be NO snow where I lived and I had to drive to work. Now I dont' have to drive anywhere and we get snow about twice a year. YAY! Sorry you don't like it. :(
ReplyDeleteI remember the ice storms of my youth in PA. We don't get those kind of storms out here, just snow..feet and feet of fluffy cold snow...
ReplyDeleteIce is not good under those conditions...although we are pretty much snow covered from November through late March here in Northern Wisconsin, we do get hit with ice on occasion and then lose power - no fun particularly when you live out in the country!
ReplyDeleteBeing from California, I have limited experience driving in bad weather conditions. But after sliding down a hill in Utah one day, driving in ice really scares me!
ReplyDelete=)
Our area in Western NC doesn't get a lot of snow but we did get a lot of ice storms. Like you said be aware and slow down. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThe ice scares me, too although I know it is worse on back roads and I mostly do city driving. I'll be thinking of you this winter, La.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
We haven't had one in years. I hope it stays that way.
ReplyDeleteO gosh - I don't envy your icy drives...tensing up thinking about it too. Great Alpha I Post!
ReplyDeletelovely i post.
ReplyDeleteBlack ice very dangerous! Being from Florida and not seeing snow until I was 19 years old, the first time I drove in it I drove sideways. ~Ames
ReplyDeleteI am certainly in agreement about not wanting those ice storms.
ReplyDeleteTeresa
Oh I love winter - but not that much ice. yikes.
ReplyDeleteI hated the ice storms we would have in Georgia and Tennessee! We could be without power or heat for several days, and driving was so terribly dangerous. I am glad to be in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteI don't miss those storms & thats why I've been trying to get you ro move down here to sunny Florida...:)
ReplyDeleteWe've had a wild week here, starting with a big wind storm that caused quite a bit of damage, and culminating, last night, with SNOW. We're not really supposed to get snow out here, but it happens from time to time. I have to get on a plane tomorrow, so I'm hoping that the roads to the airport will be cleared.
ReplyDeleteIce storms are one of the most ethereal and dangerous thigns I remember about winter in NE Ohio.
ReplyDeleteLiving in Arizona I forget that this weather is taking place all across the US making travel dangerous for this holiday weekend.
Hope you enjoy a safe and lovely Thanksgiving.
