Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

I would love it if you would visit two of my blog friends who are celebrating fantastic accomplishments. Johanna at Silber + Rosen is hosting her first blog party, International Christmas Cookies. Each Wednesday in November she will host this wonderful Christmas Cookie Exchange. Stop by to find a new recipe for your holiday menu.

I am also joining Michelle for Foodie Friday at Designs by Gollum. Michelle is on Cloud 9 because her book, Gone with a Handsomer Man, is set to be published in May 2011 by St.Martin's Press/Minotaur Books. How awesome is that? Pay her a visit and read an excerpt from her book.

I love these Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies because they are soft and sweet with a hint of lemon. I can't think of a quicker cookie recipe either. I make these for dessert sometimes because they can be made while dinner is cooking.

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

2 Eggs
2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
2 Teaspoons Vanilla
1 Teaspoon Grated Lemon Zest
1 Cup Sugar
2 Cups All-purpose Flour
2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt

Beat eggs until well blended in large bowl. Stir in the vegetable oil, vanilla, and and lemon zest. Blend in the sugar until mixture thickens. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together and add slowly to the wet ingredients. Please note: the batter will be very soft. Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 8 minutes in a 400 degree preheated oven. This recipe makes 3 dozen cookies.

  1. Greetings from Australia! I have come to visit via Johanna's cookie party.

I have seen a few recipes for sugar cookies around blogland but they seem to contain a lot of shortening. I really like the look of your recipe. Thank you so much for sharing it. I will definitely try it soon!

    Best wishes,
    Natasha.

  2. Now I'm going to be smelling sugar cookies in my dreams tonight. I'm with Natasha, they do seem lighter since they don't have shortening in them!

  7. I've know La for 37 years now and have watched her grow and become a fantastic cook!! I also had the great pleasure of eating one of her awesome dinners of roast, smashed potatoes, gravy, corn etc, etc. It was one of the best roasts I have eaten in a very long time!! Really reminded me of earlier days when Mom was still with us! Anyway, I'm positive these cookies will be the best you've eaten in a long time!! Thanks La, we all love you!!!
